About Project

Foliyoo is a company that offers packaging and moving services to enterprises and individuals. Their mission is to reduce their customers' efforts of searching for packers and movers. They work on reducing the efforts for tracking the booked vehicle.

In order to achieve that, it is important for the users of their app to be able to engage properly and get the information they want. So we (my team member and I) took up this challenge as a freelance project and decided to redesign the mobile app.

Team

We were a two-member design team:

  • C K Srivatsan (me) - Product Designer
  • Ganesh Bansod - Product Designer

Since it was the first freelance project for both of us, we contributed equally at all the stages.

Heuristic Evaluation

Heuristics refers to experience-based techniques for problem-solving, learning, and discovery. Using this approach, we performed a Heuristic Evaluation on the existing design of the app to evaluate its usability. For this, we applied Jakob Nielsen's Heuristics and Severity scale.
We came up with lots of severe issues in the app and prepared a detailed report of the issues and their severity.

  • Match between system and real world - Low
Looks very unconventional. The sign in button gives a false image of swiping action.
  • Aesthetic and minimalistic design - High
Two different screens for login id and password entry.
  • Help and documentation - Low
    Lacks instruction regarding signup.
  • Visibility of system status - Medium
Plain home screen without proper instructions for the consequent users action and no information of what is going on.
  • Consistency and standards - High
Different colors and fonts used across screens.
  • Aesthetic and minimalistic design -  Medium
Secondary functions shown in home screen.
  • Recognition rather than recall - High
Selected option in a category not visible.
  • Consistency and standards -High
Different colors and fonts used across screens.
  • Aesthetic and minimalistic design - Low
Terms and conditions is irrelevant at the initial stage.
  • Visibility of system status - High
    Not showing selected options.
  • Consistency and standards - High
    Wrong positioning of buttons.
  • User control and freedom - High
Direct confirmation without giving any options for error prevention.
  • Recognition rather than recall - High
Too much information given in a single screen in a cluttered manner
  • Consistency and standards - High
Different colored buttons and inconsistent layout.
  • Aesthetic and minimalistic design - High
    Information is not grouped properly.

Redesigned Screens

At that time the client thought of changing their brand color to green. So we went ahead to design final screens with green as the primary color.
